Iโm obsessive about my skincare routine. After my daughter was born, my two non-negotiables for self-care through the newborn trenches were showering every day, and sticking to my morning and evening skincare routine. I may have skipped a few showers, but my skincare game stayed strong.
As diligent as I am with products, Iโll admit Iโm lazy when it comes to tools and gadgets. Sheet masks, gua sha tools, microcurrent devices – if it needs charging, cleaning, or takes more than 90 seconds, I usually canโt commit.
So when I was invited to trial the CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Mask: Series 2, I hesitated. I knew from researching the product that it would take 10 minutes, three to five times a week, for four to eight weeks to see results.
It sounded like a big commitment for me, but the promise of glowing skin for this tired forty-year-old mother was too good to pass up, and I gladly accepted the task.
Rewiring More Than Just Skin Cells
Around the same time my mask was due to arrive, I kept hearing the term habit stacking on some of the business podcasts I listen to. The concept, popularised by the book Atomic Habits, is about pairing a new habit with an existing one to help it stick. I decided to stack my LED sessions with something else Iโd always wanted to commit to but never had: meditation.
The warm glow of the LED, combined with my Calm app meditations, proved a little too relaxing. I kept falling asleep on the couch, only to wake up groggy and then drag myself to bed. So I swapped the Calm app for an audiobook and hit play on a title that caught my eye: MAGNETIC by Rochelle Fox. I hadnโt heard of the book before, but the tagline – โThe secret to manifesting health, wealth, love and happinessโ – sounded like the kind of late-night optimism I needed.
Manifestation, like meditation, was always something I wanted to believe in but could never fully grasp. But Rochelleโs voice and her insights into the subconscious mind – the way our earliest memories and inherited beliefs shape our present reality – finally sparked something in me. She spoke of rewiring thought patterns, retraining internal narratives, and gently tending to the nervous system as a foundation for real transformation.
My nightly LED and MAGNETIC ritual became the start of a personal journey into understanding the subconscious mind and the nervous system. It led me down a rabbit hole of books, podcasts, and some life-changing sessions with kinesiologist Kristy Condren.
From Skin Care to Financial Self-Care
Somewhere along the way, I stumbled upon The Spiritual Hustler Podcast, which led me to the work of Kate Northrup, bestselling author, nervous system educator, and money empowerment coach. Kateโs work focuses on helping women heal their relationship with money by addressing the nervous system patterns and limiting beliefs that sit beneath financial stress.
She teaches practical tools for nervous system regulation, paired with mindset shifts and financial education, so women can make decisions from a place of safety and clarity rather than fear and scarcity.
You might have been wondering how the LED mask changed my bank balance – and here it is. On a family holiday to Adelaide, with my mask in tow, I signed up for one of Kateโs online programs, dragging myself out of bed at 1am to align with US time (probably not great for my nervous system, letโs be honest.)
Kate encouraged everyone to do a money audit and find their financial starting point. For me, that meant trawling through my personal and business bank accounts, working out my income (low) and expenses (high).
The big personal win was seeing my expenses highlighted right in front of me, including all those pesky recurring charges Iโd forgotten about. I was able to cancel, cut, and cull all those ongoing subscriptions and expenses I no longer used – saving me $250 a month. Thatโs a lot of spare cash for skincare.

The Mask Worth Committing To
I digress; letโs return to the mask.
The CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Mask: Series 2 uses 236 LED bulbs to deliver three clinically recognised wavelengths of light: red (633nm), near-infrared (830nm), and the newer deep near-infrared (1072nm). Each wavelength works in harmony to boost collagen production, reduce fine lines, and brighten skin tone.
Red light stimulates fibroblasts to create collagen and elastin, smoothing and firming the skin. Near-infrared energises cells, helping to improve circulation and radiance. The deep near-infrared penetrates up to 10mm into the hypodermis, targeting the deeper layers of skin where ageing begins.
About a month into my nightly habit stacking, I caught my reflection walking past a mirror and did a double take. What moisturiser did I have on? My face looked plump and smooth, like Iโd just walked out of a facial. Then I realised – it wasnโt the moisturiser. It was the mask.
I started using the LED mask for my skin, but the ripple effect it had on other areas of my life – my mindset, my nervous system, even my finances – was a very welcome bonus. Itโs a reminder that when we finally face the things weโve been avoiding, we often create shifts far bigger than the original goal.
