Co-creator and brand director Maddison is an accomplished actress and model, while Allyson, co-creator and business director, brings over a decade of pharmaceutical and marketing expertise to the business. We sit down with the duo to uncover the story behind their vision, their mission to empower Australians to embrace the outdoors safely, and what’s next for their rapidly growing business.

What did summer days look like for your family growing up in Dural, NSW?
We remember just hot summer days, cicadas, frogs and wallabies everywhere and lots of snakes! We spent a lot of time outside on hot days in the pool but slip, slop, slapping all the way. Sun safety was drilled into us from a young age, as our dad’s best friend sadly passed away of melanoma in his 20s, so we were raised to be really sun smart. We would literally be grounded if we got sunburnt!
Your careers took you in very different directions, Maddison as an actress and Allyson in pharmaceuticals – despite your different paths, was it always a dream to create a business together?
It was one of those things that just happened organically, we’ve always been really close, and it only made sense when we started working on the business together that this was going to be a really productive and healthy working relationship. We both have such different skill sets and understand and trust each other because we’re sisters, and we’ve learnt how important it is to trust your business partner wholeheartedly. It’s so nice to have each other to lean on, having your own business is absolutely not for the faint of heart and we couldn’t imagine not having each other.
Your careers took you in very different directions, Maddison as an actress and Allyson in pharmaceuticals – despite your different paths, was it always a dream to create a business together?
We wanted to create something that, as you mention, had a strong point of difference from more “traditional” SPF brands and even newer brands that dominate the market space. We didn’t feel represented as consumers, so we wanted to create a brand that was perfect for us, and hoped that it resonates with people. Turns out, we weren’t alone, and it’s resonated with a lot of people. There was definitely a need in the market for a brand like ours, just minimalist, elevated sunscreen products that look and feel like skincare and can sit on your bathroom counter with all of your other beautiful skincare products.
You must be so proud of your new product, the SPF50+ Face Cream, which is a beautiful combination of daily sunscreen and high quality skincare. How did you decide on the final formulation and key ingredients?
Thank you so much! We are really proud of the Crème and really excited to see the feedback we’ve been getting. Obviously, our products are therapeutic medical-grace sunscreens, so first and foremost that’s the absolute most important thing. Generally when we start working on a new product, we pinpoint a skincare benchmark in terms of finish and ingredients, and work backwards from there to figure out how to make it sunscreen that still feels like skincare.
Is further product development in the plans for 2025?
Yes! We have some really exciting plans to further expand our SPF range and start developing skincare, which we’re so excited about. Once we get through summer, which is our busiest season, we will be able to start working on these exciting new products. We try to be really thoughtful and considered about the new products we bring on, and so far that approach has served us well. Each of our products has its own “cult” like following with very loyal devotees, and I think that’s because we have been so careful with what products we launch and when we launch them.
What has been your proudest moment so far in the Outside Beauty & Skincare journey?
We just launched with DISSH in stores and online, as well as Adore Beauty, the largest online beauty retailer in Australia. Getting the nod from these hugely successful brands is such a vote of confidence that we’re doing something right, we’re still really young and can feel the momentum building, especially with a national retailer like Adore on board, this is definitely the first moment we’re like “wow, we did it.”
