From lazy hair days to polished locks: My Experience with the ghd Duet Blowdry

After years of lying on the floor while my friend Kelly ironed my hair with her parents’ clothes iron, I bought my first ghd hair straightener at age 22 – a game changer for a self-confessed lazy girl when it comes to my hair and makeup. If it takes longer than five minutes, it’s too hard in my opinion.

The OG ghd straightener was the one hairtool I ever mastered, allowing me quick and easy good hair days for fifteen years, until I lost my beloved straightener on a work trip in 2022 – RIP.

Around the same time I lost my straightener, I fell pregnant with my daughter, and concerns around good hair were forgotten in a fog of all day sickness and naps.

Enter the ghd Duet Blowdry

While I don’t miss the ever-present ‘did I turn off my straightener?’ anxiety – for those too young to remember, the original straighteners didn’t turn off automatically – I had started to miss my sleek, straight ghd hair.

A few weeks after enjoying the shiny results of a ghd straightener on loan from Standard X Hotel in Melbourne, and coming home wishing I still had my own – by pure coincidence I was gifted a ghd Duet Blowdry to sample. A relatively new product in the ghd collection that promises;

No frizz: Effortlessly smooth finishes for all hair types.

3x more volume: Amp up your look without the effort of multiple tools.

50% more shine: Enhance your hair’s natural luster for that polished, healthy glow.

No heat damage: Achieve flawless results while safeguarding your hair’s health.

Admittedly, I read all of that and thought, as if. How can a hairdrying tool create shine and a healthy glow with nothing but air?

Lazy girl meets high tech tool

My first trial of the ghd Duet Blowdry went something like this;

Ooooh, this looks fancy. Gosh it’s heavy, I don’t think I can hold it up for very long. This is taking a while, my hair isn’t dry yet. Why would anyone spend this long drying their hair? Oh wait, it’s starting to dry now. Where did that volume come from? (Also thanks to the Vegamour products I’ve been using). It’s looking quite glossy… It feels so soft. (Spends the rest of the day patting own hair)

The science behind the shine

So my question was, if this tool is so high tech, why does it take so much longer than my cheap pharmacy bought hairdryer?

Turns out, faster (and hotter) isn’t better. The ghd Duet Blowdry is powered by Heat-Air Xchange Technology™, an advanced aerodynamic system that combines controlled airflow with heated, snag-free bristles. This unique technology gently dries hair at an optimal low temperature, protecting against heat damage.

In addition to its performance, the ghd Duet Blowdry is designed with sustainability in mind, consuming 40% less energy than a traditional hairdryer and brush combo.

My Verdict on the ghd Duet Blowdry

With below-shoulder-length, fine hair, it takes around 15 minutes to dry and style my hair using the ghd Duet Blowdry – note, i’m quite slow at this, and it may not take everyone that long. As a lazy hair girl and a mother of a toddler, it’s a touch longer than I’d ideally like to spend in the bathroom. However, the results truly are worth it, so I now treat it as a weekly ritual, reserved for special outings and much needed good hair days.

The new ghd Duet Blowdry is available in black or white (RRP $595) in the best salons, premium department stores and at ghdhair.com.
