It is rare to find a true retreat in the heart of the city, yet Melbourne Place delivers an elegant escape that feels like a breath of fresh air as you wander off vibrant Russel Street and into the doors of Melbourne’s newest boutique hotel.
A canvas for creativity
Designed by Melbourne-based architect firm Kennedy Nolan, the hotel celebrates everything that defines this city: design, cuisine, art, creativity, and of course, luxury.
Upon arrival, I am greeted by a three-storey digital art installation in the lobby, curated by MARS Gallery. The captivating installation showcases works by artists including Atong Atem and Tristan Jalleh.
My Urban Soak room is expansive and warm, and not just because it’s a sweltering Spring day in Melbourne. The palette of rich orange and brown tones feels like a comforting nod to 1970s design, in the most elevated way.
Carefully curated textures and bespoke furniture and fittings from Jardan, Volker Haug, Ross Gardam, and Ross Didier perfectly enhance the inviting interiors. Melbourne Place is a masterclass in blending bold design with comfort. Every detail, from the furnishings to the many artistic flourishes, feels tastefully considered.
Soon after my arrival the sun starts setting, and golden hour washes over the city. My room is dazzled by a dance of light and shade peeking through the sheer curtains. After taking approximately 300 photos, I sit on the specially designed Joy Bear Chair by Jardan and take in the city skyline views overlooking leafy Russel Street.
Melbourne Place is a hotel that inspires relaxation as much as it tempts you to a night of refined indulgence, offering guests the freedom to choose their own adventure.

A culinary journey above and below
Melbourne is synonymous with exceptional food, and Melbourne Place boldly upholds this reputation.
Mid Air combines nostalgic Mediterranean flavors from the vibrant sun-kissed fare of Greece, Turkey, Spain, and Italy with a touch of French culinary finesse. Designed by hatted chef Nick Deligiannis, the menu features fresh, local, and flavourful ingredients, perfect for indulgent dining throughout the day – Mid Air is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
On the ground floor, Marmelo offers a taste of coastal Europe, inspired by the sun-soaked flavours of Portugal and Spain. Helmed by Ross and Sunny Lusted, the menu celebrates bold yet refined dishes – perfectly suited for a relaxed lunch or decadent dinner.
For those craving a more intimate experience, Mr Mills, the basement bar, channels the spirit of Melbourne’s laneways. The moody yet refined setting, paired with Spanish-style bites and an expansive drinks list, make Mr Mills the perfect destination for a sophisticated nightcap or an unforgettable evening with friends.
