Elevating the Essentials: The Inspiration Behind MA-JR’s Timeless Approach

After over a decade of inspiring audiences through their blog, Twice Blessed, Bec & Marissa made the transition from content creators to fashion designers with the launch of their label, MA-JR. Fueled by a desire to solve a fashion challenge they faced personally – finding well-fitting, versatile pieces for hourglass figures – MA-JR was born as a brand that champions timeless design, inclusivity and slow fashion principles.

In this interview, the sisters reflect on the journey from blogging to business ownership, the philosophy behind their designs, and their aspirations for MA-JR as they balance growing families and a passion for creating intentional, lasting fashion.

After 12 years of sharing your creativity in styling and love for fashion through your blog Twice Blessed, how did you finally decide the timing was right to launch your own label, MA-JR?

Throughout our careers as fashion bloggers, Marissa and I noticed a recurring challenge: finding pieces – particularly trousers – that fit our hourglass figures without needing to size up or resort to tailoring.

As the years went by and our frustration grew, we realized it was time to address this gap in the industry by creating pieces that worked not only for us but also for a wider audience facing the same issues.

With growing families, we wanted to build a career that evolved with us – one that allowed us to be mums while stepping away from the traditional content creator role in front of the camera. As we aged in a fast-moving industry, we became keenly aware that competing with passionate and creative young content creators would soon be unsustainable. It was time to pivot and progress in our careers.

How would you describe the unique identity and aesthetic of MA-JR?

Intentional, timeless & detail oriented.

MA-JR Fashion Melbourne.

What does slow fashion mean to you, and how do you incorporate this ethos through your business model?

Slow fashion at MA-JR means creating timeless, high-quality pieces that prioritise longevity over trends. It’s about mindful design and reducing waste. The MA-JR business model embraces this by crafting versatile, well-fitted garments that cater to real women’s needs, making sure every piece is loved, worn often, and made to last.

For those looking to create a timeless capsule wardrobe, which MA-JR pieces are an absolute must?

The Wide Leg Trousers- the best trousers I’ve ever worn (may be slightly biased) & the Split Skirt for its versatility and unique design.

What are your long-term goals for MA-JR? Are there any exciting projects or collaborations on the horizon that you can share?

Our goal for 2025/2026 is to initiate the wholesale process with key and relevant partners across Australia. We aim to grow at a sustainable pace that suits our small team, while also exploring new sustainable practices to deepen our commitment to slow fashion values.
